The Counselling Centre of East Algoma offers a variety of professional services for:
Addictions
Funded by the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), this program offers counselling to individuals struggling with their misuse and/or abuse of substances. Services are also offered to those individuals affected by someone else’s abuse or misuse of substances. The addiction program has three specific program streams; seniors, adult and youth. This program also encompasses services for individuals experiencing problem gambling as well as supports family members of the problem gambler. The problem gambling program is offered in partnership with Sault Area Hospitals.
Adult Addiction Program
The adult addiction counsellors work with individuals aged 25-54 who are experiencing difficulties as a result of:
- their use, misuse or abuse of alcohol, prescription and/or non prescription drugs
- their concerns about someone else’s use of alcohol and/or drugs
- problematic gambling behaviour
- concerns about someone else’s problematic gambling
- other addictions
The objective of the Adult Addiction Program is to provide education and resources to clients that will improve their quality of life and help them move toward self-efficacy.
Senior Outreach Program
The Seniors Outreach Addiction Counsellor works with individuals aged fifty-five and over who are experiencing difficulties such as:
- Substance Abuse
- Medication Misuse, Abuse or Dependency
- Grief
- Loneliness
- Anxiety
- Depression
The objective of the Seniors Outreach Program is to work actively with older individuals to help improve quality of life by offering education and support. The client and counsellor work together to identify problem areas and establish goals to overcome the difficulty.
Youth Addiction Program
The youth addiction counsellor works with youth aged 12-24 who are at risk of experiencing difficulties as a result of:
- their use, misuse or abuse of alcohol, prescription and/or non prescription drugs
- their parent/caregivers use or abuse of substances
- their partner or peers use or abuse of substances
- problem gambling behavior
- concerns about someone else’s problem gambling
- other addictions
This program will also provide information and education to youth through regular presence in the secondary schools of Elliot Lake and Blind River. We also have a limited presence in the grade schools.
The objective of the Youth Addiction Program is to provide prevention programming in an effort to reduce/prevent harmful involvement with substances and problem gambling.
